Police: Infant found alone in running car after dispute outside downtown Nashville bar

A 4-month-old girl was found alone in a running car near downtown Nashville’s Broadway entertainment district after police responded to an argument outside a bar Sunday, according to an arrest affidavit and Davidson County court records.

Jordan Hayley, 25, is accused of leaving the infant in the car while he went to Jason Aldean’s Kitchen + Rooftop Bar. Police said officers first encountered Hayley and the child’s mother arguing outside the bar. The affidavit describes both as exchanging words and standing close to one another.

The mother told officers Hayley had been responsible for their child, but she did not know where the baby was. Hayley said the child was with her maternal grandmother, according to the affidavit; the mother disputed that account.

After detaining Hayley and taking his car keys, officers found his vehicle parked and running near Broadway’s honky-tonk bars. The affidavit describes the area as heavily trafficked by people who may be disorderly or intoxicated. The infant was alone in a child safety seat in the front seat; police said the seat was facing the wrong direction.

The child was reunited with her mother. Hayley was arrested and charged with child neglect and leaving an unattended child in a motor vehicle. Court records list bond at $5,000 on the neglect charge and $1,500 on the vehicle charge. A judge was scheduled to review the case Friday morning.
