A security guard fired three shots during a fight outside Nashville’s Greyhound bus station on Sunday morning, wounding a 22-year-old man, according to Metro Nashville police.

Police identified the man as Jacory McIntosh and the guard as Douglas West, 39. The confrontation took place outside the station near Rep. John Lewis Way South.

Investigators said West had asked McIntosh to leave the station about an hour before the shooting. Police said surveillance footage shows McIntosh later returning, throwing hot coffee in West’s face and repeatedly charging at and punching him.

According to police, McIntosh knocked West to the ground and struck him in the head with a firearm magazine that had fallen from West’s vest. Police also said McIntosh threatened to kill West. The men continued struggling around a car, with a second security guard also present, before McIntosh broke away and West fired three times.

Bystander John Hoan, who recorded cellphone video of part of the struggle, said he saw one guard on the ground while the man punched him. Hoan said two people from the station came outside to call 911 and help treat the wounded man.

Police said McIntosh was shot in the hip and leg and was recovering at a hospital. They said he is expected to be arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault after he is discharged. West suffered burns to his face and bruising to his head, police said.

The allegations have not been tested in court. Police have not announced further details about the investigation or any charges against West.
