Uecker family honors late broadcaster as Brewers reach 2026 World Series
Bob Uecker’s family sent a message to Milwaukee’s players and fans ahead of the World Series, celebrating the team’s achievement while wishing the longtime broadcaster could see it. Uecker died in January 2025 after more than 50 years in the Brewers’ broadcast booth.
MILWAUKEE — As the Brewers prepare for the 2026 World Series, Bob Uecker’s family is celebrating the team’s run and remembering the broadcaster whose voice became part of Milwaukee baseball for more than five decades.
In a statement released Wednesday, Oct. 21, the family said generations of fans had hoped for another championship chance and that Uecker would have been proud of the players’ accomplishments. The Brewers reached the World Series after sweeping the National League Championship Series.
The message also expressed the family’s sadness that Uecker, who died in January 2025, was not there to witness the moment. It said Milwaukee, the team and its fans meant everything to him, and imagined him cheering wherever supporters gathered — at the stadium, in neighborhood bars or at home with the radio on.
The family thanked players for their belief in one another, and recognized the team’s owners, manager Pat Murphy and the coaching staff for helping build a club it called worthy of the city. It also praised the broadcast team for carrying on a tradition that mattered deeply to Uecker.
To Brewers fans, the family said, the broadcaster’s spirit lives on through stories, laughter and favorite calls, adding that it remains grateful for the affection supporters show him.
Uecker spent more than 50 years in the Brewers’ broadcast booth, making him a familiar presence for generations of fans. The family closed its message by urging Milwaukee to celebrate together and get loud for the team.
