West Bend family of four and dog found dead in home; police say no threat to public
Police discovered two adults, two children and a dog dead inside a West Bend home near Wisconsin and E. Washington streets on Saturday, Nov. 7. A girl was taken to the hospital, and authorities say the suspect was among the dead.
WEST BEND, Wis. â A quiet residential block near Wisconsin and E. Washington streets became the scene of a grim discovery Saturday when police found two adults, two children and a dog dead inside a home.
Officers were called to the residence just before noon on Saturday, Nov. 7. First responders transported another girl from the home to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately released.
Lt. Brian McAndrews of the West Bend Police Department said everyone found in the home was related to one another, and that investigators believe the person responsible was inside the home with the victims.
"Everybody in the home was connected to one another," McAndrews said. "We believe the suspect that is involved was inside the home with the individuals found deceased."
Police recovered a firearm inside the residence that they believe was used in the deaths.
McAndrews sought to reassure residents that there was no ongoing danger. "At this point we do not believe that there is suspect at large that the community needs to be concerned about by any means," he said.
Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims, nor have they specified the relationships among those found. The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the West Bend Police Department at (262) 335-5000.
The deaths shook a city unaccustomed to such violence. West Bend, the seat of Washington County, is a community of roughly 30,000 people about 40 miles north of Milwaukee. Saturday's discovery marked one of the deadliest incidents in the city in recent memory.
As word spread, neighbors gathered near the police tape that cordoned off the home, watching as investigators moved in and out. Some placed flowers at the edge of the scene.
Community support resources are available for those affected. Washington County's crisis line can be reached 24 hours a day, and the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is available by dialing or texting 988.
The West Bend Police Department has not said when it expects to release additional details, including the results of autopsies. The investigation remains active.
