We Energies plans $32 million in fall electric bill credits after lower fuel costs
We Energies will return more than $32 million to electric customers, with a typical household expected to receive about $13 to $14. Credits will be applied automatically to October or November bills, depending on billing cycles.
We Energies customers will receive automatic electric bill credits this fall after the utility’s fuel costs in 2025 came in below projections, the company announced Thursday, Oct. 8.
The utility plans to return more than $32 million to customers. A typical residential customer can expect a credit of about $13 to $14, depending on electricity use. The credit is based on electricity used in October and will appear on customers’ October or November bills, depending on their billing cycle. No action is required.
Residential customers will receive about 2 cents per kilowatt-hour used in October. A household using 660 kilowatt-hours, for example, would receive roughly $13.60.
The credits reflect how fuel costs are incorporated into electric rates. Rates include estimates for the fuel used to generate electricity; when actual costs are lower than the amount approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, the difference is returned to customers.
Customers enrolled in Budget Billing will see the credit during their next account review. Energy for Tomorrow participants will receive a credit on the portion of their electric bill not covered by the program.
