Milwaukee School of Languages briefly placed on hold after postgame assault report
Milwaukee police searched a student, the student’s backpack and locker at Milwaukee School of Languages on Friday after a report that the student had been seen with a gun following the school’s football game the night before. No weapon was found, Milwaukee Public Schools said in a message to families and staff. The school briefly went into a “hold” while officers responded in tactical gear. Students remained in their classrooms, and the hold was lifted after a short time. The district said the student was no longer in the building and that school resource officers and additional safety assistants would remain on campus for the rest of the day. The Friday response was connected to an incident after the game, as players returned to the school. The district said three people attacked an MSL football player with objects that appeared to be weapon handles. Police are investigating. During the game, two people separately reported seeing a weapon in the visiting team’s stands. The district said no weapon was found in either case and noted that attendees must pass a safety scan to enter the stadium. The district called the postgame attack unacceptable and said it would take disciplinary action under the MPS Student Code of Conduct if students were found to have been involved. It did not identify the student searched or provide details about possible discipline, citing student privacy laws. The school encouraged students, families and staff to report safety concerns to a trusted adult.
