Milwaukee Street Angels marks decade as number of unsheltered people served more than doubles
Street Angels will celebrate 10 years of homelessness outreach at a Milwaukee gala on Oct. 10, as the organization reports serving more than twice as many verified unsheltered people in 2025 as in 2021. The event will raise funds for its expanding services and recognize the community behind its work.
Milwaukee’s Street Angels will mark 10 years of homelessness outreach with its first community gala on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Venue 3 in the 3rd Street Market Hall.
The event, scheduled for World Homeless Day, will run from 3 to 7 p.m. and include a presentation from 4 to 5:30 p.m. NFL content creator Tom Grossi is set to be the main speaker. A charity livestream Grossi held last winter raised more than $180,000 for the organization.
Street Angels provides mobile outreach to people experiencing homelessness, including hot meals, mobile showers and connections to services. Co-founder and CEO Eva Welch said the gala is intended both to raise money for the organization’s future and to bring together people who have supported its work.
The need has grown substantially. Street Angels reported assisting 529 verified unsheltered individuals in 2021, compared with 1,247 in 2025. Welch said the organization has responded by adding staff, extending outreach routes, starting a shower program and hiring a resource navigation specialist to help people outside outreach hours.
The Hoan Bridge is also scheduled to glow purple Saturday, a color used to raise awareness about homelessness. Outreach specialist Jemel Veasy said the illumination could prompt people who see it to learn why the bridge is lit and what is happening in the community.
Street Angels began in 2016 as a volunteer effort and later became a nonprofit. Welch said continued fundraising is essential to sustaining the organization’s work over the next decade.
