Milwaukee pedestrian dies after crash near Burleigh and 49th; 39-year-old driver arrested

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday near Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee, police said. The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. near Burleigh Street and 49th Street. The vehicle was traveling west on Burleigh when it hit the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the street, according to police. The pedestrian died at the scene. Police arrested the driver, a 39-year-old. The case has been referred to the Milwaukee County district attorney’s office for a charging decision; no charges were reported as filed.
