Kenosha County deputies recover handgun from Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm maze
A 16-year-old was taken into custody after witnesses reported seeing him with a gun at the Kenosha-area farm on Friday. K9 Riv tracked the teen’s path through the corn maze and located the unloaded 9 mm handgun and an empty 30-round magazine, authorities said.
KENOSHA, Wis. — A 16-year-old was taken into custody Friday after witnesses reported seeing him handling a handgun at Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm, where deputies later found the weapon in a corn maze, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office said.
Farm security tried to approach the teen, who ran but was detained on the property. Deputies took him into custody when they arrived. During the investigation, he acknowledged possessing the handgun and said he had thrown it into the maze while running, according to the sheriff’s office.
Farm staff cleared the maze while Deputy Jonathon Booth and his K9 partner, Riv, searched. Riv followed the teen’s route and located a 9 mm handgun and an empty 30-round magazine among the corn stalks, authorities said. The gun was unloaded, and the magazine held no ammunition.
Deputies also recovered a vape pen belonging to the teen. A field test indicated it contained THC, the sheriff’s office said.
The teen was released to a parent with housing restrictions. His name was withheld because he is a juvenile. The sheriff’s office requested charges of disorderly conduct while armed, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18, and possession of THC.
