Milwaukee woman charged with bail jumping after Brookfield gym vehicle theft, prosecutors say
Amy Jones, 23, faces a new felony allegation after authorities say a vehicle was taken from a Brookfield fitness club and recovered in Illinois. She was already charged in a separate case involving allegations that she posed as a substitute teacher at Rufus King High School.
A 23-year-old Milwaukee woman facing charges in a case involving allegations that she posed as a substitute teacher now faces a felony bail-jumping charge tied to a vehicle theft in Brookfield, according to a criminal complaint filed Sunday in Milwaukee County.
Prosecutors allege Amy Jones violated a condition of her bond by committing a new crime. The complaint says a woman entered Crunch Fitness on West Capitol Drive around 4:30 a.m. Friday using the name “Aniya Brown.” She allegedly took an energy drink without paying and picked up a gym member’s car keys along with her backpack.
The member later reported that his 2017 Nissan Pathfinder was missing. A purple .380-caliber handgun was inside the vehicle’s glove box, according to the complaint.
Investigators said a witness identified Jones after seeing a social media post about the theft. Police in Oak Lawn, Illinois, confirmed Friday afternoon that Jones was in custody with the vehicle, the complaint says.
Jones was charged last week in Milwaukee County with impersonating a public employee and five counts of exposing a child to harmful descriptions. Prosecutors allege she posed as a substitute teacher at Rufus King High School and made inappropriate comments to students.
It was unclear when Jones might be extradited to Milwaukee. Police are also referring additional charges related to the Brookfield case to the Waukesha County District Attorney’s Office for review.
