Grafton boy remains in critical condition after bicycle crash; driver faces felonies
An 11-year-old is hospitalized after being struck while riding his bike in Grafton. Investigators say the driver brought him to a home, then left; the family is calling for accountability as the boy faces a months-long recovery.
GRAFTON, Wis. — Logan, an 11-year-old sixth-grader, remained in critical condition at Children’s Hospital after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle Friday evening in a trailer park off Port Washington Road, the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver stopped and took Logan to a house, but then left, authorities said. Logan’s family described the injury as devastating. “You had enough care for him to bring him back to us because you knew he was hurt, but then run … why,” his mother, Rebecca Krutina, said.
Prosecutors say David Sitar, 37, was driving a work van for Finishing Edge Carpentry when he hit Logan shortly after 6 p.m. A license plate found at the scene helped investigators identify the van, and Flock cameras tracked it to Kenosha, according to investigators. Detectives also said surveillance video showed Sitar stopping at a Kwik Trip after the crash to buy alcohol. That account does not establish whether he was impaired while driving.
Officers found Sitar at a motel in Lake County, Illinois, the following day and arrested him. He is jailed and faces multiple felony charges, according to the report. The charges are allegations; the case has not been resolved in court.
Brian Reifenstuhl, who described holding Logan after the crash, said he continues to remember the boy’s severe injuries. Krutina urged the driver to accept responsibility.
Logan competes in martial arts, and his instructor is helping raise money for the family’s medical expenses. His doctors have told the family recovery could take several months. “I just pray he gets beyond this and recovers,” Krutina said.
