Milwaukee’s former Scottish Rite center set for high-end apartment conversion
F Street has acquired the vacant 1889 limestone building at 790 N. Van Buren St. and plans to convert it into apartments called The Scot. Construction is expected to resume this fall, with leasing planned for spring 2027 and move-ins targeted for fall 2027.
A vacant limestone landmark in downtown Milwaukee is slated for a new life as an apartment building, with units ranging from about 855 to 4,400 square feet.
F Street has acquired the building at 790 N. Van Buren St., which opened in 1889 and formerly housed the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center. The company plans to redevelop it as The Scot, according to an announcement dated Oct. 6.
The project is expected to include underground parking and a range of apartment layouts. F Street described the units as among the largest in downtown Milwaukee. The announcement did not specify the number of apartments, rents or how many units, if any, would be priced below market rate.
The building has been vacant since 2018. Construction is expected to resume this fall, with pre-leasing planned to begin in spring 2027. The company’s target is to welcome residents in fall 2027.
