Milwaukee officer suspended after alleged groping outside South Milwaukee bar
Nathan Enk faces fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct charges over an alleged encounter outside a South Milwaukee bar. He has been on full suspension from the Milwaukee Police Department since Sept. 21.
A Milwaukee police officer has been charged after a woman told police he repeatedly tried to kiss and touch her, then grabbed her breasts without her consent outside a South Milwaukee bar, according to a criminal complaint.
Nathan Enk was charged Oct. 5 with fourth-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct. The complaint says the incident happened around 2 a.m. Sept. 21 outside the Taproom on Milwaukee Avenue.
A witness told police she saw bar patrons trying to escort Enk out before he approached the woman and grabbed her breasts, the complaint alleges. The woman said she did not know Enk and that he told her she was going home with him.
Enk denied groping the woman in an interview, according to the complaint. He said, “nobody groped that (expletive), I slapped that (expletive’s expletive).”
The Milwaukee Police Department said it learned of the allegation in September and that Enk was arrested by the jurisdiction where the incident occurred. He has been on full suspension since Sept. 21 and has worked for the department for more than seven years.
Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said the allegation was concerning and did not meet the standards expected of department employees. He also said the department recognizes Enk’s right to due process and that he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
If convicted, Enk could face up to nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine for the sexual assault charge, and up to 90 days in prison and a $1,000 fine for disorderly conduct.
