South Beach shooter faces sentencing after guilty plea in tourist’s killing
Tamarius Blair Davis is scheduled to be sentenced in Miami-Dade County after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 2021 shooting death of Dustin Wakefield. Wakefield, a 21-year-old father from Colorado, was dining with his wife and infant son on Ocean Drive when he was shot.
Tamarius Blair Davis is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in Miami-Dade County for killing Dustin Wakefield, a 21-year-old tourist from Colorado, in South Beach in 2021.
Davis, now 27, pleaded guilty in May to second-degree murder. Wakefield was shot on Aug. 24, 2021, in the outdoor dining area of a restaurant on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach.
Wakefield, who lived in Castle Rock, Colorado, was having dinner with his wife, Karina Olguin, and their 12-month-old son, Eli, when Davis waved a gun at them and shot him, police said. Authorities said Davis was under the influence of psychedelic mushrooms.
The sentencing is the next step in a case stemming from the killing of a young father while his family was with him. Davis’s guilty plea resolved the murder charge; no sentence was reported in the information available ahead of Monday’s hearing.
