Miami police investigate dog found submerged and bound in Coconut Grove
A boater says a dog was underwater, tied with its leash and zip-tied to two cinder blocks. Miami police are trying to identify who was responsible; a person questioned in the case was arrested on unrelated charges.
Miami police are investigating a suspected animal-abuse case after witnesses found a dog underwater and secured to two cinder blocks in Coconut Grove.
Boater Ryan Young said the dog had been tied with its own leash and zip-tied to the blocks. “It was a very purposeful-looking thing,” he said, describing the discovery as the worst thing he had seen.
Police said investigators learned of a video showing the dog that was circulating online Tuesday. Detectives are pursuing leads to establish what happened and identify the person or people responsible, spokesperson Officer Kiara Delva said.
Investigators have contacted and questioned someone who may be the dog’s owner, but police said they have not confirmed that person owned the animal. The person was arrested on unrelated charges. Police have not released the person’s identity or details about those charges.
The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not provided further details about the dog or the circumstances of its discovery.
