Man dies after shooting at Medley truck yard; hospitalized suspect expected to face charges
A man died Wednesday after a shooting at a truck yard near Northwest 109th Street and South River Drive in Medley. Authorities say a verbal dispute preceded the gunfire; the suspect was hospitalized and is expected to be charged after release.
A man died Wednesday afternoon after being shot at a truck yard in Medley, where police say an argument between two people escalated to gunfire that morning.
Medley police responded to reports of a shooting near Northwest 109th Street and South River Drive. Sgt. Luis Rivera said the dispute happened inside the business and one person armed themselves with a firearm and shot the victim.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the victim to a hospital by medical helicopter. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the victim later died and that it would take over the investigation because the case had become a fatal shooting.
Authorities have not identified the person suspected of firing the weapon. That person was also taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to face charges after being released, deputies said. Officials have not said whether the people involved worked at the business or were visitors.
Rivera said police had secured the scene and there was no broader threat to the public or nearby businesses. The investigation is ongoing.
