Fort Lauderdale candidate held on intimidation charges after $4,000 bond was posted

Elijah Manley, a 27-year-old Fort Lauderdale political candidate, faces two counts of intimidation after allegedly writing or sending a threat to kill or injure someone Friday night, according to Broward County jail records and the State Attorney’s Office.

A judge issued an order Thursday setting Manley’s bond conditions, which include pretrial release, a ban on possessing weapons or ammunition, no contact with the listed victims and no social media posts. Jail records show a $4,000 bond was posted, but Manley remained at Broward County Main Jail as of Saturday morning.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office said it will not prosecute the case because of a conflict of interest. The office asked the governor’s office to assign it to another state attorney’s office, explaining that the listed victims have taken part in charitable drives organized by Broward prosecutors.

The social media post Manley is accused of writing could not be independently verified. Manley was among the candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Florida’s 20th Congressional District in the summer of 2026; he did not win. The charges are allegations, and Manley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
