A fire in a fourth-floor apartment at Blue Lakes Apartments in Miami’s Flagami neighborhood prompted the evacuation of all 52 units early Tuesday, leaving at least 15 people displaced.

Miami Fire Rescue said crews were called to the building near Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest 52nd Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. More than 100 firefighters responded and extinguished the flames in roughly 30 to 40 minutes.

Firefighters helped two elderly residents from the apartment. They were taken to a hospital with minor smoke inhalation, authorities said. Crews also assisted residents who use wheelchairs or could not move without help. The building has one elevator.

The flames were contained to the apartment where the fire began, but smoke and water damage spread through the building. Residents on the fourth floor will be unable to return, officials said. Video from the apartment showed blackened walls and debris.

The cause of the fire had not been provided by Tuesday morning.
