King tides flood South Florida streets as strong onshore winds and showers move in
King tides brought street flooding to parts of South Florida on Monday, while coastal winds gusted as high as 40 mph. Flood warnings covered Broward, Miami-Dade and the upper Florida Keys as showers were expected to pass through the region.
Drivers in coastal South Florida encountered king tide flooding Monday, Oct. 26, as rain and strong onshore winds affected the region.
Flooding was reported on some streets in Hollywood and parts of Fort Lauderdale, while windy conditions accompanied the high tides in Miami Beach. A coastal flood warning was in effect for Broward and Miami-Dade counties and the upper Florida Keys in Monroe County. The lower Keys were under a coastal flood advisory.
A wind advisory covered metro Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Coastal gusts could reach 40 mph, and fast-moving showers were forecast to move inland through Monday. Temperatures were expected to reach the 80s.
The combination of elevated tides, wind and rain posed additional challenges for people traveling through low-lying coastal areas.
