Deerfield Beach man charged after SUV reached 102 mph before fatal crash, deputies say
Jean Claude Saint Cyr, 63, was arrested nearly six months after a crash that killed his wife and injured three others. Investigators say he was driving as fast as 102 mph in an area with a 30 mph speed limit.
A 63-year-old Deerfield Beach man was arrested Monday in connection with a May crash that killed his wife and injured three other people, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Jean Claude Saint Cyr faces charges including vehicular homicide, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and seven counts of reckless driving involving damage to a person or property, according to jail records. The charges stem from the May 26 collision at Northeast Third Avenue and 44th Street.
Investigators say Saint Cyr was driving a white 2023 Land Rover Discovery north on Third Avenue shortly before 1:40 p.m. when he struck a red 2023 Nissan Rogue stopped at 44th Street. The Land Rover then crossed into the southbound lanes and hit a white 2015 Nissan NV200 before rolling over and stopping near the sidewalk, authorities said.
The Land Rover was traveling between 98 and 102 mph as it passed a nearby business, where the speed limit is 30 mph, investigators determined. It was moving between 79 and 87 mph when it hit the Rogue, according to deputies.
Saint Cyr’s wife, 59-year-old Fedeline Alexis Saint Cyr, was ejected from the Land Rover and died at the scene, investigators said. The other three drivers were taken to Broward Health North. The crash tore off the Land Rover’s front axle and ejected its engine, while the Rogue rolled and came to rest against the porch of a home, according to authorities.
The collision also damaged a fence near a pool where four girls were playing. The girls were not injured, their grandfather said after the crash. Neighbors have described speeding and drivers failing to stop at the intersection’s four-way stop as ongoing concerns in the area.
As of Tuesday morning, Saint Cyr was being held at the Broward County Main Jail. Jail records showed no bond had been set. The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the court system.
