A 32-year-old man was arrested after an alleged attempt to kidnap a 13-year-old at a Miramar gas station Monday evening, police said.

Officers said the incident happened around 5:34 p.m. at the Shell station at 2840 South State Road 7. The man, identified as Michael Polanco, fled west, according to police. Officers later found him nearby after responding to reports of another disturbance.

Police said the teen and a witness identified Polanco, who was taken to the Broward County Main Jail. He faces charges of battery causing bodily harm and kidnapping involving bodily harm or terrorizing the victim.

Authorities have not publicly described how the teen got away or whether the child was injured. The charges are allegations; Polanco is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
