Hialeah residents urged to hang up on callers demanding money over alleged warrants

Hialeah police are warning residents about callers impersonating officers and demanding money to resolve supposed legal troubles.

The callers may claim a person has an outstanding warrant, a pending case or an unpaid bond, according to the department. Some have used real officers’ names and badge numbers, along with falsified caller ID information, to make their claims appear credible, police said.

The department said officers will not call and demand payment to prevent an arrest. Anyone who receives such a call should hang up and report it to Hialeah police at 305-687-2525.
