BALTIMORE — The Milwaukee Brewers made more franchise history Sunday night, beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-0 to reach 98 victories and complete a three-game sweep. The win moved Milwaukee to 98-58, surpassing the 97 victories the club recorded last season. The Brewers have also secured their fourth consecutive National League Central title and entered the final week of the regular season with the best record in the majors. William Contreras provided the game’s biggest hit, launching a 403-foot solo home run to left field in the fourth inning. It was his 18th homer of the season. Cooper Pratt drove in the other two Milwaukee runs. His two-out single in the second inning brought Jake Bauers home after Bauers walked and advanced on a groundout. Pratt added another RBI single in the seventh against Baltimore reliever Félix Bautista. Milwaukee’s pitching staff held the Orioles to four hits and its second consecutive shutout. Jacob Misiorowski opened the game with a planned three-inning outing, allowing one hit and striking out four. Misiorowski leads the majors with a 1.86 earned-run average and 247 strikeouts, and his four strikeouts moved him into second place on Milwaukee’s single-season list. Ben Sheets holds the team record with 264 strikeouts in 2004. DL Hall earned the win after recording five outs, improving to 4-0. Trevor Megill finished the game for his 29th save. Jackson Chourio added to Milwaukee’s strong all-around performance by stealing two bases, giving him 21 this season. He joined Seattle’s Julio Rodríguez and Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. as the only players to open their careers with three consecutive seasons of at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. Baltimore starter Brandon Young allowed two runs and struck out a career-high nine batters over six innings. The Orioles dropped five games behind the Chicago White Sox for the American League’s third wild-card spot with six games remaining. Milwaukee is off Monday before beginning its final road series Tuesday in Philadelphia. Right-hander Dustin May, 7-9 with a 4.61 ERA, is scheduled to start for the Brewers.
