Madison police close cases tied to UW reports of suspected drugging and assault
Madison police say they have closed investigations into suspected druggings and sexual assault connected to reports from UW-Madison. In one case, medical testing found no drugs; another person declined to pursue an investigation.
MADISON, Wis. — Madison police have closed investigations into reports of possible druggings and sexual assault involving incidents connected to University of Wisconsin-Madison fraternity houses, the department said Tuesday.
UW-Madison officials said a person reported being drugged and fondled at two off-campus fraternity houses overnight Sept. 26-27. A second person reported being drugged at a fraternity house Sept. 17 and later sexually assaulted in a residence hall.
Police spokesperson Stephanie Fryer said officers responded Sept. 26 to a report of a possible drugging after a woman was found unresponsive outside a State Street restaurant. Medical tests showed no drugs in her system, Fryer said.
Fryer also said someone reported a possible drugging and sexual assault on Sept. 27, believing they had been groped while dancing at an off-campus fraternity. The person went to a hospital for an examination but chose not to continue with an investigation, she said. They could not provide specific information about a suspect or when the alleged groping occurred.
Police said they had closed the investigations. The information provided by police did not specify investigative findings for every incident described by the university.
