A Fitchburg resident reported missing and considered endangered was found in Madison after a search involving Fitchburg police and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said. Friends and family contacted Fitchburg police at 10:45 a.m. Friday, reporting that the resident was behaving unusually. Police determined there was enough information to enter the person as missing and endangered. Investigators used license plate reader data to identify the resident’s vehicle and build a timeline. The vehicle was found in Cottage Grove, where sheriff’s deputies assisted Fitchburg officers. Police said the resident had begun using an alias unknown to law enforcement and had received a ride from Cottage Grove to Madison. Sheriff’s deputies located the person, checked on their welfare and told Fitchburg police the resident had checked into temporary housing in Madison. Authorities did not disclose the resident’s identity or provide further details about the circumstances leading to the missing-person report.
