Seven residents and four pets were displaced after a fire spread from a garage into a home in the 600 block of Burdette Court in Madison, near Badger Park, firefighters said. The fire was reported at 6:43 p.m. Sept. 26, 2026. Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said firefighters found heavy fire coming from windows on both the first and second floors. Crews directed water through the windows, contained most of the fire inside the home and then put out the remaining flames in the garage. Firefighters also conducted a search and continued cooling hot spots. All residents evacuated safely. Two cats, however, remained missing. The owners said one is Macy, a gray female, and the other is a mostly orange male with white stripes. Firefighters believed the cats may have escaped, and their owners asked neighbors to watch for them. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
