MADISON, Wis. — A trial for Jorge Baez, 68, and his daughter, Melissa Basilio-Ruiz, 45, is scheduled to run April 27 through May 4, 2027, in a case stemming from the fatal shooting of Luis Sotero Herrera in Madison. Baez is charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the Jan. 25 killing of Herrera, 34. Basilio-Ruiz faces six counts of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and one count of harboring or aiding a felon by providing false information. Both have pleaded not guilty. According to the criminal complaint, Herrera was shot in the 400 block of Primrose Lane. Home surveillance video allegedly showed Baez walking away from the area where Herrera was found while carrying a gun. Basilio-Ruiz told investigators Herrera was her former boyfriend and had abused her, according to the complaint. The charges against her are separate from the homicide charge against her father; the allegations have not been proven in court.
