Dane County case advances after UW Hospital assault allegations; defendant pleads not guilty
Dontel Coney, 44, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to three felony charges stemming from allegations involving a UW Hospital employee. A court commissioner ordered the case bound over, and no next court date has been set.
MADISON, Wis. — Dontel Coney, 44, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Dane County court to charges arising from allegations that he tried to sexually assault a University Hospital employee.
Coney appeared for a preliminary hearing and arraignment. Court Commissioner John Rome ordered the case bound over, moving it forward in the court process. Online court records show the plea. No future court date had been scheduled as of Wednesday.
Coney is charged with attempted first-degree sexual assault with use of a dangerous weapon, false imprisonment and bail jumping. The charges are allegations, and he has pleaded not guilty.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department alleges Coney cornered a hospital employee in a bathroom and attempted to sexually assault them.
