Adams County case: Joseph Nicpon pleads guilty to cutting off GPS monitor
Joseph Nicpon Jr., 45, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Adams County Court to tampering with a GPS tracking device in a case that led to an Amber Alert for an 8-year-old girl, according to court proceedings reported Sept. 30. A criminal complaint says Nicpon was released from prison March 31 after serving a sentence for incest with a child. He was on extended supervision and subject to a no-contact order barring contact with Betty Lentz and their daughter, the complaint alleges. Investigators allege that three days after his release, Nicpon cut off his GPS monitor while driving and handed it to Lentz, who threw it from a vehicle. The complaint says Nicpon later took over driving Lentz’s van. The group stopped at an Iowa hotel, where Lentz dyed her hair and the girl’s hair black, and continued toward Phoenix, Arizona, investigators said. An Amber Alert was issued for the girl. On April 4, authorities found Nicpon, Lentz and the child in Nebraska, and Nicpon was taken into custody. The girl was placed in the care of child protective services. Nicpon faces up to 3½ years in prison for the GPS-monitor offense. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 2.
