MADISON, Wis. — Construction around Camp Randall Stadium will change how fans enter and gather for Wisconsin’s home opener Saturday, with university officials urging people to arrive earlier than usual. The Badgers will host Western Illinois at 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the team’s first home game of the season. The game will be the first at Camp Randall since the first phase of work on the Kellner Family Athletic Center was completed, adding a new facility next to the stadium. During the project’s second phase, Badger Way will be closed between the Camp Randall Arch and the stadium’s north end. The closure will affect pedestrian routes and the usual location where fans gather to watch the football team arrive. Instead of entering near the arch, the Badgers will make their pregame march near Ho-Chunk Plaza outside Gate 5, according to Patrick Herb, UW’s assistant athletic director. Herb said fans should plan for additional time to navigate the altered routes and avoid arriving at the last minute. “Give yourself a little bit of time,” Herb said. “Plan a little bit early to arrive so you can make it in on kickoff and don’t have to get delayed by some of the wayfinding that might be challenging on Saturday.” The construction is part of UW Athletics’ broader work around Camp Randall. The university has also been reinstalling memorial bricks near the stadium as construction progresses. Fans can expect construction-related changes to affect the game-day experience even as the stadium remains open for Saturday’s matchup. Arriving early may help reduce crowding and give attendees time to find their gates and the relocated team entrance.
