Andrew Showers enters no-contest pleas in Waupaca County child-sex case
A former Madison priest was found guilty Tuesday in Waupaca County after pleading no contest to three charges involving a child and child sexual abuse material, according to court proceedings reported Oct. 13. Andrew Showers, 38, pleaded no contest to attempted child enticement, attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography. Other counts were dismissed under a plea agreement. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2027. Showers was arrested in August 2025 after agreeing to meet someone he believed was a minor, authorities said. The person was an undercover Clintonville police sergeant posing as a 14-year-old girl. Investigators later said they found digital evidence on Showers’ phone, and he was charged with child pornography in March. He also faces separate charges in Marathon County, where he is accused of attempted grooming of a child and bail jumping. A telephone scheduling conference in that case is set for Oct. 22. The Diocese of Madison said in June that Showers would no longer serve or be recognized as a religious leader. The change followed his request to be released from his priestly obligations, which Pope Leo XIV granted.
