Man found dead after hourslong SWAT response on Meade Avenue in Louisville
A man was found dead in the basement of a home after an hourslong SWAT standoff in Louisville’s Audubon neighborhood, police said Saturday. Officers were called to the 3000 block of Meade Avenue around 10 p.m. Friday after neighbors reported that homes and cars had been shot at, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department. Police said residents identified a man who lived on the street as a suspect. The department’s SWAT team went to the man’s home and heard gunshots coming from inside, police said. Officers spent several hours trying to negotiate with him from outside using a megaphone. After a judge issued a search warrant, SWAT officers entered the home and sent in a drone, which found the man dead in the basement. Police said the death appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is investigating the incident. The department did not release the man’s identity or provide additional details about the reported gunfire in the information available Saturday.
