Police estimate wrong-way Sahara crash reached 93 mph; two drivers critically hurt

A 2022 Honda CR-V was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Sahara Avenue before colliding head-on with a BMW near Tenaya Way, critically injuring both drivers, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department arrest report. Preliminary crash data indicated the Honda was going about 93 mph at impact, police said.

The crash happened Thursday, Oct. 15. Police identified the Honda’s driver as Corazon Blackwell, 58, and booked her in absentia. She faces a charge of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm. The case was continued to Jan. 19.

Two witnesses told police they saw the Honda driving the wrong way. One, who was traveling west on Sahara, said the driver appeared “crazed” and narrowly avoided hitting his vehicle, according to the report.

The Honda struck a 2025 BMW iX. One of the Honda’s wheels broke off and hit another car’s windshield; another wheel and other debris damaged three vehicles parked at a nearby dealership, police said.

The BMW driver was taken to University Medical Center with injuries including lacerations to his liver and spleen. Emergency crews spent an extended period removing Blackwell from the Honda before taking her to the hospital as well.

Police obtained warrants for blood draws and the Honda’s airbag control module. Because of extensive damage, investigators could not image the module while it was still installed. At a Tuesday hearing, Judge Joseph Bonaventure said he believed Blackwell remained hospitalized. Bond had been posted for her release, according to the report.
