A Las Vegas man has agreed to plead guilty to four gross-misdemeanor conspiracy charges stemming from the death of Pinto, a horse police said was tied to a pickup truck and made to walk or trot behind it in extreme heat.

Under the plea agreement, Guadalupe Camarillo Guarneros conspired with at least one other person to kill Pinto on July 25 by placing a rope or lasso around the horse’s neck, attaching it to a moving vehicle and forcing the animal to follow the truck. The agreement says Pinto died as a result.

The other three counts involve alleged cruelty to 10 pigs, 21 chickens, a puppy, a kitten, a piglet and a ferret. They accuse Guarneros of conspiring to violate the county’s animal-cruelty code by withholding sustenance, shelter or medical care.

Police previously said neighborhood surveillance video showed Pinto being pulled behind a white Ford F-150 registered to Guarneros. A police report said Guarneros’ son told investigators his father walked the horse twice a week while it was attached to the truck by a lasso.

Guarneros is expected to be sentenced Nov. 4.
