Henderson man arrested in Boulder City shooting death after renewed investigation
John Powell Morgan III was arrested Oct. 24 on suspicion of murder in the 2021 shooting death of Scott Dingman. Boulder City detectives said evidence gathered during a renewed investigation helped establish probable cause for the arrest.
A man was arrested in Henderson on Oct. 24 in connection with the 2021 shooting death of Scott Dingman in Boulder City, police said.
John Powell Morgan III was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of open murder with the use of a deadly weapon, according to Boulder City police. The charge is an allegation; the arrest does not establish guilt.
Dingman was shot on May 31, 2021, in the roadway on Fairway Drive. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Morgan after revisiting the case with information received in 2025, police said.
In April 2025, investigators searched Morgan’s home and found evidence they said supported the investigation. Police said further investigative work in 2026 produced information that led to probable cause for the arrest. Morgan was taken into custody at a car dealership in Henderson.
Police have not publicly detailed the evidence or described a possible motive in the information released about the arrest.
