Federal funding will help replace aging fire station at Harry Reid airport

Harry Reid International Airport is scheduled to break ground Tuesday, Oct. 27, on a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting station intended to replace one of the oldest fire facilities in the Clark County Fire Department.

The ceremony is set for 1 p.m. at the future Clark County Fire Station 13 on the airport airfield. The Nevada congressional delegation secured $23.1 million in federal funding to help pay for rebuilding the facility, according to the Clark County Department of Aviation.

The existing station has served the airport for more than four decades. Replacing it is part of the airport’s long-term modernization effort as air travel demand grows, the department said. The project is also intended to maintain emergency response capacity, operational readiness and safety for passengers, employees and airport operations.

Aircraft rescue and firefighting crews respond to emergencies involving aircraft and other incidents on airport grounds. Updating their station is part of the infrastructure needed to support a busy airport while preserving emergency response capabilities.
