Family plans vigil for Reynaldo Rodis after fatal East Las Vegas robbery

LAS VEGAS — The family of Reynaldo Rodis plans to gather with the community Friday evening at the East Las Vegas business where he was fatally shot during an attempted robbery last week.

Rodis, 45, died after being shot in the chest at Elevated Life, near East Flamingo and South Pecos roads, on Oct. 15. A police declaration supporting an arrest warrant says Rodis tried to tackle one of the suspects before he was shot.

His sister, Rochielle Jocson, said she was in California when she learned her brother had been shot. She traveled to Las Vegas and saw his body for the first time on the one-week anniversary of his death.

“We found out that he got shot and we were in shock,” Jocson said. “It is hard for things like that to really sink in.”

Jocson, a nurse, said the sudden and violent nature of her brother’s death has been especially difficult for the family to process. “We don't have any answers. That is the hard part,” she said, adding that Rodis was someone who helped many people and gave generously to others.

Police say three men entered the business and held two employees at gunpoint while attempting to steal marijuana and a bag. According to the warrant declaration, an employee told investigators that a coworker had contacted two men the day before the robbery to help with a disruptive customer. Police allege the two men returned the next day with a third person.

Witnesses told investigators they heard one person ask another suspect, “Why did you shoot? You didn't have to shoot.” The warrant request accuses Anthony Terry of open murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon. Those are allegations, not findings of guilt. The declaration also refers to another person believed to have been involved, who was not publicly identified in the information available.

A public vigil for Rodis is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the shooting scene. His family says the public is welcome.

Jocson urged anyone with information about the case to contact Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Homicide at 702-828-3521 or homicide@lvmpd.com. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
