Basic Academy student dies after scooter collision at Henderson crosswalk
Torri, a Basic Academy student, died after a vehicle struck her while she was riding an electric scooter across Racetrack Road in Henderson. Police are continuing to investigate the Oct. 21 crash; they said speed and impairment do not appear to have been factors.
Torri, a student at Basic Academy, has died days after a vehicle struck her while she was riding an electric scooter through a marked crosswalk in Henderson, her mother said.
Henderson police responded at about 3:08 p.m. Oct. 21 to the collision on Racetrack Road near Blue Lantern Drive. A preliminary investigation indicates Torri was crossing the road from the Saguaro Park Trail when she was hit by a vehicle traveling south, police said.
Her mother said Torri will be an organ donor. Basic Academy held a moment of silence in her honor during a football game Friday night.
Police said speed and impairment do not appear to have contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing. Henderson Police Chief Reggie Radar has also urged parents to learn about the risks and rules associated with electronic devices, as the department plans to increase enforcement.
Donations to support Torri’s family can be made through a GoFundMe campaign organized for them.
