Interlachen man dies after motorcycle overturns during Putnam County ATV crash
A 62-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday evening after swerving to avoid an ATV crossing State Road 100, Florida Highway Patrol said. Three people riding in the ATV suffered minor injuries, and the crash remains under investigation.
A 62-year-old man from Interlachen died Saturday evening in a crash involving a motorcycle and an all-terrain vehicle on State Road 100 in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision happened around 7:08 p.m. west of State Road 26. Troopers said the ATV was traveling east along the right shoulder of the westbound lane when it began crossing the road diagonally toward the south.
A motorcycle heading east in the eastbound lane approached the ATV. The motorcyclist swerved left in an attempt to avoid it, investigators said, and the motorcycle overturned. The rider was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
The ATV continued south and struck a tree on the right shoulder of the eastbound lane. A passenger in the vehicle was ejected. The ATV’s three occupants—a 60-year-old Melrose man and two women, ages 54 and 62—sustained minor injuries, FHP said.
The investigation is ongoing.
