Two Dallas teens charged after six people wounded in South Barry Avenue gunfire
Dallas police say a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested in connection with a shooting during a gathering in South Dallas that left six people injured. Investigators believe gunfire was exchanged between someone in a crowd and a person in a vehicle, which crashed as it left.
Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a shooting that wounded six people during a gathering in South Dallas, Dallas police said.
Police arrested a 16-year-old on Oct. 14 and charged the teen with six counts of aggravated assault. A week later, on Oct. 20, officers arrested 17-year-old Martin Padilla, who was charged with five counts of aggravated assault. The charges accuse both teens of firing a weapon at an occupied building, home or vehicle, an offense described as a first-degree felony.
The shooting occurred about 3:10 a.m. Oct. 4 in the 1400 block of South Barry Avenue. Investigators believe a person in a vehicle and someone in a crowd exchanged gunfire. Police said the vehicle struck a light pole as its driver tried to leave.
Dallas Fire-Rescue took at least three people to a hospital, while three others drove themselves for treatment. None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, police said.
Police have not released further details about what led to the gunfire. The arrests and charges are allegations; the available information does not describe the teens’ court status.
