Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant was cited after a dispute with two 19-year-olds escalated in a Southlake parking lot on Oct. 25. The teenagers dispute Bryant’s account of the traffic encounter and say video shows him knocking a phone from one man’s hand.
Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was cited for misdemeanor assault after a traffic dispute with two 19-year-olds escalated into a confrontation in a Southlake parking lot on Sunday, Oct. 25, police said.
Southlake police responded at about 12:59 p.m. to reports of a fight in a retail parking lot in the 2200 block of FM 1709. Callers also reported a possible weapon, so officers arrived with their firearms drawn as a precaution. Police said no firearms were found, and several people were temporarily detained during the investigation.
Police said the dispute began near Kimball Avenue after Bryant, 37, reported that another motorist had cut him off. The drivers entered a nearby parking lot, where the argument allegedly became an assault. Bryant received a citation for assault by contact, a Class C misdemeanor, and was released at the scene.
The two 19-year-olds, Noah Reyes and Terrance Avery, told reporters they were heading to a restaurant after church and denied cutting Bryant off or driving recklessly. They said Bryant got out of his SUV and confronted them in the lot. Video they provided shows Bryant shouting at Reyes and knocking a phone from his hand, according to the reporting. The young men allege Bryant then picked up the phone and threw it to the ground.
Bryant previously told OutKick that the teenagers cut him off and that one threatened to shoot him. Reyes and Avery denied that allegation. Avery said he tried to calm Bryant, while Reyes said he felt intimidated. Bryant had not responded to a request for comment about the teenagers’ account.
The citation is an allegation, not a conviction. The reported incident drew a police response involving multiple officers after callers raised the possibility of a weapon, though police said none was recovered.
