Regla Becquer gets 30-year sentence in North Texas group-home case
Regla Becquer was sentenced to 28 years in prison and two years in state jail after pleading guilty to crimes tied to unlicensed group homes. Police say at least 13 people died at the homes she operated in three Tarrant County cities.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Regla Becquer was sentenced this week to 28 years in prison and two years in state jail for crimes connected to unlicensed group homes she operated across North Texas, according to court records.
Becquer pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, abandoning or endangering an individual, and financial elder abuse. Police have said at least 13 people died at the homes between September 2022 and March 2024, when Becquer was arrested.
Her company, Loving and Caring for People LLC, ran five homes in Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie for adults with physical and mental disabilities. Becquer’s arrest followed a complaint from a woman who reported abusive conditions at one of the residences.
The case also drew scrutiny over how Becquer acquired one of the properties. The home’s previous owner left it to Becquer in a one-sentence will signed just days before the owner died, according to the information reported about the investigation.
The case prompted changes to Texas law governing the operation and oversight of group homes. The deaths and sentencing have renewed attention on protections for disabled adults living in residential care, where effective oversight can be essential to residents’ safety.
