One person found dead after late-night fire destroys southeast Dallas mobile home

One person was found dead inside a mobile home on Coxville Lane in far southeast Dallas after a late-night fire, Dallas Fire-Rescue said. The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the remains, which officials said could not be recognized at the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find the home engulfed in flames. Because the fire was too advanced for a rescue attempt, crews fought it from outside. They found the body after extinguishing the blaze.

Mariana Mendoza said she saw the flames shortly before midnight and went toward the home with her boyfriend. They called 911 and tried to find out whether anyone was inside. Mendoza said her boyfriend knocked on doors and walls near the fire, but they heard no response. He considered going in to help, she said, but the conditions were too dangerous.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. A Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson said overnight winds may have contributed to the flames’ spread, while officials believe clutter inside the home also may have helped the fire move quickly. The mobile home had additional living spaces built onto it.

The American Red Cross was called to assist two men and a woman who lived at the property. Officials have not said whether any of them was the person found dead.
