Dallas police are expected to release body-camera footage Friday from an officer-involved shooting Wednesday near the R.L. Thornton Freeway in southern Dallas.
The shooting occurred at about 12:21 p.m. in the 400 block of South R.L. Thornton Freeway, police said. The department also plans to provide an update on the incident.
According to preliminary police reports, officers used Flock technology to locate a suspect who was wanted on multiple felony warrants related to narcotics and a probation violation. Police said the suspect opened a door while armed with a long rifle, and an officer fired. Officers then gave several commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but police said the suspect did not comply.
Police said the suspect then shot himself with a different weapon. The available account did not specify the suspect’s condition. No officers were injured, according to police.
The planned release of body-camera footage may provide more detail about the encounter. Police had not yet released the video at the time of the announcement.
