Cedar Hill delivery driver recovering after being shot twice on route

CEDAR HILL, Texas — Yirmar Martinez was delivering an Amazon package early Monday, Oct. 12, when she says a man with a gun opened fire near a home off North Cedar Hill Road, striking her twice.

Martinez told local television station FOX 4 that she pulled into the driveway and switched on her high beams to find the front door. As she moved toward an access road near the house, she saw the armed man. She raised her Amazon vest and showed him a package, she said, but he spoke in English she could not understand and then began shooting.

One bullet grazed the top of Martinez’s head and another hit her lower back. She drove away as the man continued firing, she said, and is now recovering.

Cedar Hill police confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the shooting. The department had not identified the person arrested or announced charges as of Thursday, Oct. 15. Martinez spoke with police that afternoon, and her vehicle remained in police custody as evidence, she said.

Martinez, who moved from Venezuela to Texas two years ago, delivers through Amazon Flex, a program in which drivers use their own vehicles to make deliveries as independent contractors.

Amazon said it had contacted Martinez about available support and was reviewing the incident. The company said it would cooperate with law enforcement. Police have not publicly detailed what led to the shooting.
