Haltom City mourns Mayor An Truong, a public servant and regional trailblazer
Mayor An Truong, 78, died Friday, the city said. Elected in 2019, he was the first Vietnamese American mayor in Tarrant County and had decades of experience in law enforcement.
Haltom City Mayor An Truong died Friday at 78, the city announced, saying he passed peacefully with family and friends around him. The city said flags at its facilities will be lowered to half-staff in his honor.
Truong was elected mayor in 2019, becoming the first Vietnamese American to hold the office of mayor in Tarrant County. Before leading the city, he served on the Haltom City Council and built a career in law enforcement: he began with the Fort Worth Police Department and later worked for 37 years as an investigator with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
City Manager Rex Phelps remembered Truong as a devoted public servant who put the community first. County Judge Tim O’Hare also paid tribute, describing Truong as a trailblazer whose public service spanned law enforcement and city leadership. O’Hare said Truong came to the United States as a young man seeking opportunity and expressed condolences to his family.
The city’s announcement did not provide a cause of death or information about memorial services.
