Drivers crossing downtown Dallas should plan for a full weekend closure of I-30 beginning Saturday night, Oct. 24. The Texas Department of Transportation plans to close all eastbound and westbound lanes between I-35E and the I-45/U.S. 75 interchange from 10 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26.

The marked detour will send motorists to State Highway 366 and Woodall Rodgers Freeway. TxDOT warns drivers to expect congestion and longer trips, and recommends avoiding unnecessary travel through the area if possible.

The closure is part of the $888 million I-30 Canyon Project, which is rebuilding and improving the corridor between the I-35E and I-45 interchanges. Construction began in March, with completion expected in 2031.

The stretch known as “The Canyon” ranks as the 11th most congested corridor in Texas, according to a Texas A&M Transportation Institute study. While the project is intended to address traffic problems, businesses along the route have raised concerns about whether they can remain open through the lengthy construction period.
