Late Angulo strike sends Columbus Crew to 3-2 defeat in Orlando
Iván Angulo scored in the 89th minute to give Orlando City a 3-2 win over the Crew on Saturday. Columbus twice came back from a deficit, but goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau made 12 saves to help Orlando hold on.
ORLANDO, Fla. — The Columbus Crew rallied twice to level the score Saturday, but Iván Angulo’s goal in the 89th minute lifted Orlando City to a 3-2 win.
Angulo finished a counterattack after Martín Ojeda returned the ball to him with a first-touch pass. His one-timer from the center of the field put Orlando ahead for good.
Orlando struck first just 46 seconds into the match. Harvey Sarajian, making his first career start, converted a cross from Antoine Griezmann for a 1-0 lead.
The Crew answered in the eighth minute when Taha Habroune ran onto a pass from Santiago Rodríguez and scored past goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau. Griezmann restored Orlando’s advantage in the 16th minute, but Columbus again pulled even after halftime: Habroune set up Brais Méndez on a counterattack in the 53rd minute, and Méndez scored into an open net.
Crépeau made 12 saves for Orlando City (11-13-4). Patrick Schulte stopped five shots for Columbus (8-15-5). Griezmann, who joined Orlando in July, has nine goals and five assists in 12 career MLS appearances.
The Crew are scheduled to host Charlotte on Wednesday. Orlando will play at Toronto that day.
