PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers answered a late Cincinnati push with a 77-yard drive and Chris Boswell’s 33-yard field goal, beating the Bengals 30-27 on Sunday. Aaron Rodgers completed 19 of 34 passes for 292 yards and three touchdowns. His biggest play on the winning possession was a 47-yard catch-and-run by tight end Darnell Washington, which helped put Pittsburgh in position for Boswell’s kick with 2:18 remaining. Cincinnati had a chance to respond, but Pittsburgh’s defense ended the drive. Defensive tackle Derrick Harmon sacked Joe Burrow, who fumbled; rookie defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day recovered near midfield to secure the win. The result moved both teams to 2-1. Pittsburgh rebounded from a poor showing the previous week at New England, while Cincinnati missed a chance to open 3-0 for the first time since 2015. Burrow also threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns. One score came on a 28-yard pass to Tee Higgins late in the first half, when Higgins out-positioned Steelers defensive back Asante Samuel Jr. to make the catch near the goal line. The Bengals’ miscues helped keep Pittsburgh in the game. A roughing-the-punter penalty extended a Steelers drive in the third quarter, which ended with Rodgers finding DK Metcalf for a touchdown. In the fourth, Cincinnati’s Ke’Shawn Williams muffed a punt deep in Bengals territory, setting up Boswell’s field goal that tied the score at 27. Pittsburgh running back Jaylen Warren totaled 176 yards — 127 rushing and 49 receiving. An 80-plus-yard run by Warren was erased by a holding penalty on Metcalf late in the game, but Rodgers still led the Steelers downfield behind a reshaped offensive line that included rookie first-round pick Max Iheanachor at right tackle. The Steelers played without cornerback Joey Porter Jr. for a third straight game. Their defense allowed Burrow to produce for much of the afternoon, but Harmon’s sack and Joseph-Day’s recovery proved decisive. The win also gave first-year coach Mike McCarthy a needed boost.
