MONTREAL — The Columbus Crew snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday night, beating CF Montreal 2-0 behind second-half goals from Mohamed Farsi and Brais Méndez. The victory was a needed response for Columbus, which had lost six of its previous seven matches. The Crew improved to 7-14-5, while Montreal fell to 5-15-6 and extended its winless run to six matches, including five consecutive losses. Farsi broke the deadlock in the 57th minute. From just inside the right side of the penalty area, he sent a low shot beyond goalkeeper Sébastian Breza and inside the far post. Méndez doubled the lead 11 minutes later, driving a free kick from about 30 yards under the crossbar in the 68th minute. Breza finished with one save for Montreal. Columbus goalkeeper Patrick Schulte made two saves to record his fifth shutout of the season and preserve the Crew’s clean sheet. The Crew will return home Sept. 27 to host Miami. Montreal is scheduled to host Cincinnati next Saturday.
